What is Web 2.0?

Hi all!

Welcome to my blog (read: electronic journal)! I’m excited to learn about Web 2.0, yet is overwhelmed to explore all the new tools! However, the philosophy behind Web 2.0 is rather more important to focus on, than the tools. I need to remember that!

Web 1.0 versus Web 2.0 

In order to learn more about Web 2.0, I Google-ed the differences between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. From my readings, I understand that users of the Web 1.0 are passively receiving the information with limited interaction with the sites, whereas users of the Web 2.0 can actively contribute to the content. In addition, Web 2.0 encourages interaction, collaboration, and information sharing.

What is Web 2.0?

Darcy DiNucci is the first person who used the term “Web 2.0” in her article entitled Fragmented Future in 1999. However, Tim O’Reilly is the person who popularized the term during the O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004. Here’s a short Youtube video of O’Reilly on what is Web 2.0?
